Wired Towns’ mission is to promote best practices and standards in the development of smart, green, and wireless communities everywhere.   Here, we showcase how emerging technologies — whether in Wi-Fi, wireless sensors, green energy generation, energy management, cloud computing / SAAS (software as a service), location-based and community based content and services are already changing communities around the world.   The stories we tell here are culled from a number of innovative manufacturers and from the companies now deploying their solutions.    Taken together, this site advocates for a set of best practices for the creation of local sustainable, scalable community networks.    We champion a new localism, one that supports local business and local schools, where communities, are self sufficient in terms of energy production and telecommunications, smart communities that use 21st Century information technology to operate more efficiently and autonomously. At the same time, we are dedicated to bringing like minded communities and technology companies together to share best practices, both for their mutual benefit, and for the benefit of all those communities around the world that aspire to making a better world for themselves.
